April 24, 2010: Vedanta Class is a ज्ञान-यज्ञ (jñāna-yajña)

The teaching of vedānta is most effective when approached with a certain attitude. It is traditionally looked upon as being a yajña. Although yajña often takes the form of a ritual, any activity that is done keeping in mind one's place as an individual in the total universe can be called a yajña. A very important part of vedānta study is an inquiry into the reality of the universe and our relationship with it. As such, our class is a real yajña. Moreover, the time and effort we put into attending the class is a very real āhuti or offering. The more we put in, the more prasāda we will receive in the form of knowledge.
