29. वैराग्यं dispassion च and मुमुक्षुत्वं desire for freedom तीव्रं intense यस्य for whom तु but विद्यते is, तस्मिन् in him एव only अर्थवन्तः meaningful स्युः become फलवन्तः fruitful शमादयः śama-ādi qualifications. (The sādhaka for whom dispassion and desire for freedom are intense, in him only the śama-ādi qualifications are going to be meaningful and fruitful.)
30. एतयोः of these two मन्दता less intensity यत्र in whom विरक्तत्वमुमुक्षयोः of dispassion and desire for freedom, मरौ in desert सलिलवत् like water, तत्र in him शमादेः of the śama-ādi qualities भासमात्रता only semblance. (In whom there is less intensity in dispassion and desire for freedom, there is only a semblance of śama-ādi qualities.)
31. मोक्षकारणसामग्र्यां in the ingredients of freedom, भक्तिः devotion एव only गरीयसी exalted, स्वस्वरूपानुसन्धानं enquiring into one’s own nature भक्तिः (is) devotion, इति thus अभिधीयते is named, स्वात्मतत्त्वानुसन्धानं enquiring into one’s own reality भक्तिः devotion (is), इति thus अपरे others जगुः say. (Among the ingredients for मोक्ष, devotion is exalted and enquiring into one’s own nature is named as devotion. Some others say that enquiring into one’s own reality is devotion.)
